Should I get an Epidural?
First I want to start off and say an epidural is not evil, wrong, or you had less of a birthing experience if you decide to get one. I am really grateful that an epidural is an option with modern medicine today- it is beautiful to have so many of the options that we have. Birth is all about balance. In the birth space unfortunately, there is so much bias about what is “right” and the “correct” way to have a baby… That is why I am passionate about being a doula- to support you in any decision you decision to make. I am also passionate about you being educated on those decision and for you to feel 100% confident and knowledgeable that you choose the best decision for you, your family, and your birthing experience.
So, with that being said… let’s talk about an epidural and what their all about. At the end of this, I not going to tell you if you should get one or not. But I am going to tell you about the pros and cons of them so you understand fully the decision you are making.
PROS:
Help with pain management and taking away the strong pain of labor contractions.
Can enable both birthing woman and partner to rest.
May allow you to be more present.
CONS:
With these pros and cons, and whatever you end up deciding for your birth plan, it is always important to hold it with an open hand as birth is unpredictable. Hopefully, this helps to be better educated, allowing you to feel empowered, and ULTIMATELY leaving you with a positive birth experience.
